WHO ARE WE?
CLUB INFORMATION

PACIFIC FLEET KAYAKING CLUB

Pacific Fleet Kayaking Club offers an affordable way to explore the nature from the water. We provide Paddle Canada training and ability for our members to use club equipment at no charge. In Victoria, there isn't a more affordable way to enjoy sea kayaking or paddle boarding. We are a non-profit club operating under Personnel Support Programs (PSP) which falls under Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services (CFMWS). Our club is located inside boundaries of Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Esquimalt.

While our membership is open to general public, general public is not allowed to be greater than 10% of our membership. Due to COVID-19 our courses are currently open to active military members and their families only.

membership benefits

BENEFITS

In order to access our equipment, you must have a valid membership for the year and have a valid certification from a nationally organized organization such as Paddle Canada. If you do not have a certification, we provide training at very affordable rates.

We have a fleet of 23 sea kayaks which 2 of them are tandem and  9 paddle boards for our club members. Current members who are certified can borrow 2 kayaks up to 10 days at a time and 2 paddle boards up to 5 days at a time. We also have all associated gear for you to be safe on the water such as PFDs, paddles, pumps, throw ropes, spray skirts.

We also have 8 drysuits for our members to rent at an affordable cost. We charge for our dry suit rentals due to high cost of acquiring and maintaining them.

We will be moving to an online booking system later this year. For now, please use the following Google Sheet document to reserve your gear.

Kayaking

Courses

We have Paddle Canada Instructors who can certify you for  Basic Skills and Level 1 Sea Kayaking Skills.

1 day Basic Skills ($60)

This is the primary starting point of the Paddle Canada Sea Kayak skills progression. With a focus on foundation skills and knowledge, Basic Kayak Skills inspires students to go out on short paddling excursions in class-0 or calm and sheltered waters.

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to confidently paddle in calm, sheltered waters in the company of peers with similar abilities.

More information can be found on Paddle Canada Website, click here.

2 day Level 1 ($120)

Building on the information covered in Basic Skills, Sea Kayak Level-1 Skills is a two-day course that moves participants beyond flatwater kayaking and into the sport of sea kayaking.

The course is conducted in slightly rougher water than Basic Kayak, aiming to develop the paddler’s comfort. There is a strong focus on re-entry techniques as well as the skills required to safely plan and execute a day trip with friends (for example, navigation & route planning, weather interpretation, proper clothing/gear.)

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to confidently paddle in class-1 conditions in the company of one or more paddlers with similar skills or knowledge. The paddler should be self-reliant yet an asset to the group and an active participant, willing and able to assist others if they need assistance.
